Our Wine List

Red Wines

Not all grapes are destined for greatness. Some end up in jams and jellies while others rise to glory when used to make wine. Wine makers of the world focus their attention on approximately 40 to 50 different red wine grape varieties. These include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel grapes among others.

The color of red wine comes both from the skin color of the grape and the amount of time the juice from the grape has in its skins. Once picked, red grapes marinate with their skins in tanks or barrels. There, they absorb the pigments and complexities of the skin (think tannins). The exact color can range from light red to nearly purple, depending on the variety of grape and the time spent in its skin.

White Wine

White wine differs from red wine both in color and in processing. Red wine grapes soak in their skins, whereas winemakers immediately press white wine grapes after picking. The juice has very little contact with the skin.

The color of white wine varies according to the grape and occasionally from the use of wood. Additionally, the winemaker’s creative decisions as well as climate may affect the wines body color.
